I have known there is a calling on my life to preach the word of God since I was a child. As a child, I envisioned preaching worldwide to lost and wounded souls despite never leaving California. I grew up in church. My family attended church weekly, but others on our street lived a different type of life. I learned not to judge them but to have empathy for them. The road to the pulpit was not perfect during my own life, which is why I believe my testimony can help deliver souls to God.
In my late teens, I knew the calling on my life was what God’s plan was for me and was a blessing, but sometimes it was hard to follow. My family Pastor, Rev. Dr. Roy Roberson, Sr., believed in my gifts and did his best to keep me engaged and connected to Southwood Missionary Baptist Church. However, temptation outside the church was around me.
As a young adult, I followed the crowd instead of being the leader I knew God created me to be. As a young husband and father, I allowed everything to consume my life, making it harder for me to maintain my prayer life or serve the Lord faithfully. I relied on the prayers of others instead of what I had been taught. My grandmother and pastor stayed on their knees praying for me, and my deliverance came.
At 29, I returned to Southwood, and by 30, Dr. Roberson ordained me. God used Southwood as my education in preparation for becoming the founding Pastor of New Creation in Christ Baptist Church (NCIC) in 2003. As the Pastor of NCIC, I saw God’s wonderful working power manifested in lives all around me. This small church started as 15 people in a Bible study but in 2010 grew into a daily conference call prayer ministry and Sunday service that people around the United States virtually attended. In 2011, I started my Master of Divinity degree at Fuller Theological Seminary, and shortly after that decided to discontinue online church services and New Creation in Christ Baptist Church.
My time at Fuller has been a journey, but I stay committed to graduating with my Masters degree. Being a student at Fuller has supported my emotional and spiritual growth in preparation for again assuming a Pastorship. I am committed to honoring and serving Him. God moved me out of the darkness and put me into the light to preach His word. So now it’s time for me to get on with the business for the Lord.
Over the past few years, I have supported other Pastors in other churches as a guest pastor, performed weddings and funeral services, provided prayers for special events, and am now blessed to become the pastor for Mt. Beulah Baptist Church.
I believe God has given me the responsibility to look for Him in everyone I meet to reach their souls. By reaching their souls, we bring them to Him. I know that through intercessory and individual prayers, breakthroughs are possible. Many people in difficult situations may not have someone who has shown them how to take their burdens to the Lord. For others, they may have lost their faith. In my life, I have learned that all things are possible through God.
